Thank you for visiting our website. It's intent is to introduce patients to a procedure called an EMG/NCS that has been prescribed for them as a diagnostic step by a primary care doctor or a specialist, and to provide all pertinent information to referring medical providers.
Dr. Tashjian is a physiatrist who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Physiatrist's diagnostic tools are much like those used by other physicians, with the addition of special techniques in electrodiagnostic medicine like electromyography (EMG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), and somatosensory evoked potentials. These techniques help the physiatrist to diagnose conditions that cause pain, weakness, and numbness.
Though we are listed under "Physical Therapy" or "Pain Management" in many provider books, we do not perform physical therapy in our offices or administer pain management in the form of steroid injections, cortisone injections or other treatments. Our medical service is to perform Electromyographic and Electrodiagnostic testing, which includes Nerve Conduction Studies. For more information on the EMG/NCS test, please click the appropriate link in the menu, which describes a typical test procedure and answers frequently asked questions. Providers can find helpful information such as procedure and diagnosis codes under the provider link, as well as information about referring to physicians who specialize in Electromyography and Electrodiagnosis.
